The Centre for Sustainability in Energy and the Environment (CSEE) develops sustainable energy and environmental management solutions, and commercial opportunities for sustainable development of communities. The CSEE research program incorporates four strategic themes, including Mine Water Remediation and Management, Environmental Remediation Technology, Clean Carbon Energy, and Renewable Energy.

The Unama'ki Economic Benefits Office (UEBO) is focused on exploring new economic opportunities for the five First Nation communities in Cape Breton, Unama'ki. The UEBO has partnered with CSEE at Cape Breton University in the research and development of economic opportunities in the area of energy and environmental sustainability and the engagement of local Aboriginals in sciences and R&D

The Sustainability Officer will join the CSEE team and is accountable for identifying, defining, and making recommendations regarding sustainability issues and opportunities appropriate for the CSEE.

Unama’ki Economic Benefits Office

Reporting to the Director of the Unama'ki Economic Benefits Office in Membertou First Nation, the Administrative Assistant contributes to the efficient day-to-day operation of the Unama'ki Economic Benefits Office as well as the Unama'ki ASEP training program.  This person will also provide support to the work of the Economic Benefits Office team.  The Administrative Assistant is required to perform a range of duties including, but not limited to, reception, preparing of correspondence, reports and other documents, maintaining office files, scheduling and making arrangements for committee meetings and conferences, recording minutes and preparing meeting packages as well as preparing purchase orders and travel claims.

You will provide support and guidance to existing and new businesses in the Unama'ki communities.  You will also promote business and business opportunities in Unama'ki and promote partnership opportunities. This is a one-year contract position.  Upon a successful review, this position may be renewed depending on continued funding. This position is expected to begin approximately Sept.13, 2010. This person will work out of the Unama'ki Economic Benefits Office, Membertou First Nation, NS, frequently working out of other Unama'ki communities. Salary will range from $40,000 to $50,000, depending on qualifications
