About Membertou

Named after the Grand Chief Membertou (1510-1611) the Membertou First Nation belongs to the greater tribal group of the Mi’kmaw Nation. Membertou is situated 3 kms from the heart of the city of Sydney, Nova Scotia, within its tribal district of Unama’ki (Cape Breton). Membertou is an urban First Nation community consisting of over 1050 people.

Eskasoni

About Eskasoni

Nestled alongside the beautiful Bras d’Or Lake in Eastern Cape Breton Island, Eskasoni First Nation is the largest Mi’kmaq community in the world. Deeply rooted within Eskasoni is the Mi'kmaq culture. Eskasoni is proud to say that they are home to the largest Mi’kmaq speaking community with close ties to traditional culture and beliefs.

Potlotek

About Potlotek

Potlotek (Chapel Island) was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 2003. It is recognized as an ancient place of meeting for the Mi’kmaq. It is recognized as a sacred and spiritual place for the community. It was a traditional meeting place for the Grand Council. The council would gather to discuss matters of governance and treaties with other tribes and nations.

Situated in the Cape Breton highlands, Wagmatcook lies 10 miles west of Baddeck and 1 hour from the Canso Causeway heading in to Cape Breton, surrounded by the breathtaking natural scenery of the Bras d'Or Lakes. Wagmatcook has many special events throughout the year, including craft demonstrations, dance performances and concerts.

About Waycobah

Waycobah is one of Nova Scotia's most progressive First Nation communities. The community was first established in the early 1800's. Originally known as We'ko'kmaq, the community name was changed after it was misspelled at an early Winter Carnival. Now simply known as Waycobah, this beautiful place is a nature-lovers paradise and a popular stop-over for visitors.
